A technological application, Séneca, is being used that will modernise the 091 service so that calls from any part of the Balearics will be directed to the police in the required place. This will optimise the use of available resources. In addition, the change will improve coordination between security forces with private security through the 112 service by speeding up bureaucracy in working procedures and in connections with different databases.
There is also to be a remodelling of the operations centre in Palma. The area is to be increased as will be the number of personnel. The service operates on a shift system every day of the year. It is expected that this year it will handle more than 28,000 calls. It will cover the areas of the Balearics for which the National Police, as opposed to the Guardia Civil, are responsible - some 675,000 residents, a number that rises to around seven million at the height of summer.
The new structure of the centre will integrate the management of calls to 091 and radio calls from officers and also monitor police interventions. The 112 platform will be integrated in order to provide greater effectiveness in terms of speed of reaction and service to the public.
