The Guardia Civil's homicide squad is investigating the brutal murder of a 57-year-old man, whose body was found by his sister on Tuesday evening at the family finca in Sencelles.

The man, Juan Antonio Florit, was a resident of Palma but frequently visited family in Sencelles, which is where he was born. His body was discovered at about half nine on Tuesday evening at the rural property on the cami de Creixell, around a kilometre from the town. His sister had gone there after he had failed to show up at a family gathering. Local police and the Guardia Civil were immediately called. He had been stabbed repeatedly all over his body. His throat had been cut and one finger had been severed. It is believed that he was killed on Monday evening.

The homicide and forensics squads spent yesterday searching for evidence and for clues as to whether he was the victim of a robbery or had received threats. The prinicipal hypothesis is that he came across someone who was robbing the finca. Investigators are wanting to establish if there are items missing.
