The Guardia Civil yesterday mounted another operation against the sale of drugs. The operation was centred on Pollensa, the town and port, and Alcudia. Some fifty officers, including members of the criminal police based in Pollensa, were involved in the operation, with support from the Guardia's helicopter and dog unit.

It began at first light with raids on three houses and two commercial premises in Pollensa, Puerto Pollensa and Alcudia. One of those arrested was at a property by a primary school in Pollensa. He was found with 70,000 euros cash stashed in a backpack. Other raids were in the calle Formentor and calle Joan XXIII in Puerto Pollensa.

In addition to this cash, some 200 grams of cocaine were seized. Vehicles, boats and a motorcycle were also seized.

The investigation had started a few months ago. The Guardia had become aware of a "retail" system of drugs sales - cocaine and hashish. The five people arrested are Spanish and Moroccan and four sales points have been closed down.
