More than 400 senior officials will receive salaries in 2018 that are higher than those earned by government ministers. In the case of around 150 of them, they will have salaries which exceed what President Armengol will be paid - 66,240 euros.
The ministerial salary is 58,461 euros, to which - where some ministers are concerned - there is an additional 22,000 euros compensation. This is for ministers from Ibiza and Minorca, and there are three: Pilar Costa, the minister for the presidency and government spokesperson; Marc Pons, the land, energy and transport minister; and Fanny Tur at culture, participation and sport. Senior officials also receive this compensation for needing to live in Majorca.
The salaries of some senior officials are being bumped up because of the full application of the so-called professional career bonus, which can be as much as 12,000 euros per annum. As previously reported, there are some ministers who believe that this bonus, or at least its scale, is outrageous, but it is one that the government has felt obliged to restore following the cuts that were made by the Bauzá Partido Popular administration.
One of the highest earners next year - the salary will be at least 90,000 euros - will be the director of the new anti-corruption office, which is to finally see the light of day in 2018.

The Ballerics must be very rich to afford them
The “bonus” can be anything from 2% up to 10% depending on the industry or job. So, for instance, if a worker has a base salary of 1.000, after 5 years he will automatically be eligible for say a 5% raise ie 50, to be paid during the following 5 years, after which he will be eligible for another 5% on his salary of 1.050. These figures obviously do not take into account any yearly increase in his basic salary, on which his “bonus” will be calculated.
Mr Bremner, ALL Spanish employees with a full time job ( and on occasions without one ) receive a bonus, called Plus de Antigüedad. This is normally paid after 5 years, but in some industries can be after only 3. This bonus is accumulative every 5 or 3 years until they leave or retire. They also, as you may know, receive a months bonus in July and another months bonus in December. Some industries or governmen offices pay an extra 2 months, ie at Easter and in Icribee. They are also eligible for a minimum of 30 days paid holiday per year.
I was totally taken aback at the news item the other day that civil servants expected a bonus because they had been in the service for ten years or more. Are they mad, they already have a paid position with pensions and security that no other employees have in the country. In contrast when I left the semistate service in Ireland in the eighties after eleven years, I was awarded a removal of my pension ie given back my contributions and the state keep theirs, so I have no pension from those years. I in that eleven years introduced transport savings of over 25M at todays prices. My impression from reading the MDB is that government here try to waste that per annum, and they want a bonus!
