The British woman, K.C., who apparently deliberately ran over the current partner of her former husband appeared in a Palma court yesterday and was released on charges. She has had her passport withdrawn, is not permitted to leave the island and was given a restraining order which prevents her from going within 500 metres of her victim.

Wearing a jogging top and hood to cover her face, the accused, believed to be from the Manchester area, was escorted into the courthouse by two members of the Guardia Civil and in handcuffs.

The incident occurred at 7.30pm on Tuesday evening when the 23-year-old victim was walking along calle Federico Garcia Lorca. According to eyewitnesses, many of whom attended to the injured woman until paramedics reached the scene, a small white car mounted the pavement, knocked the woman over and then drove off at speed.

A Guardia Civil spokesperson said: "We arrested a woman aged 29 as the suspected author of a crime of attempted homicide. Officers assisted a group of people on Tuesday in Magalluf who were around a woman they spotted lying on the ground. That woman was an injured British national." The vehicle was located 30 minutes later.
