The National Police have significantly stepped up their activities and presence in the Playa de Palma and within a matter on hours of Tuesday night, seven people were arrested after being caught red handed robbing items from tourists on the beach as they either slept or enjoyed a swim.

Two of the suspects are Romanian, two are Armenian and the remainder are Spanish, of the seven, three are female and all range in age from 26 to 60.

According to the National Police, who watched the suspects in action before making their move, the individuals would monitor the movements of people on the beach and wait until they either fell asleep or went for a dip in the sea before snatching rucksacks and handbags.

On the back of information gained from the seven detainees, the National Police are stepping up their operations even more amidst concerns there may gangs operating in a similar manner.
