If it's not one thing it's another in Magalluf; this time it's noise. | Michel's

Over the past fortnight, Calvia police have taken action against numerous establishments because of excessive noise. In thirty instances, bars and clubs had their doors open after midnight, while there were twenty more cases of activity on terraces continuing beyond the permitted time, which is normally 3am. Mostly all of the sanctions apply to establishments in Magalluf and Santa Ponsa; along Punta Ballena and Ramon de Montcada in particular.

Keeping doors open after midnight is a contravention of Balearics legislation on noise pollution, and it can carry a fine of 12,000 euros. Terrace activity is governed by the bylaw on opening hours. Infringements can lead to maximum fines of 10,000 euros. Another law stipulates that decibel levels at nighttime must never exceed 35.

Residents groups have made several complaints about the level of noise during the summer season.
