The National Police are hunting five men who beat a 34-year-old Dutch tourist unconscious and who died as a result of his injuries.

Around five o'clock on Friday morning, Wouter Van Lujin was spotted by a passing motorist in front of an old warehouse by the edge of the road along the Cami de la Milana near the Repsol petrol station in Son Ferriol, Palma. The driver took him to Son Espases Hospital, where he was rushed into intensive care. He died shortly afterwards. He had suffered extensive and multiple injuries.

The National Police murder squad immediately opened an investigation and began sifting through the images captured by CCTV cameras located along the stretch of road between Son Ferriol and Son Banya. One of the cameras picked up images of a group of between four and five young men leaping over a wall and fleeing from the direction where the body was found.

While officers spent the day going over other video footage, others were at the scene combing the area in search of evidence. Police said that the detention of the attackers is imminent due to the video footage and items found at the scene.

An open mind is being kept as to what exactly happened and why, but police are not ruling out the possibility that the victim had gone to Son Banya, the shanty town that is notorious for its drug trade.
