Storms continue to hit Majorca

The whole of Majorca was placed on amber alert for storms and heavy rain yesterday, Aemet having revised its previous warning which was for amber only in the north, northeast and interior.

The 112 emergency service activated its plan for Level One risk, meaning increased probability of risk to people and property. Aemet reported intense storms out at sea from ten o'clock yesterday morning, and when the storms made land, there was disruption to travel. In Campos, the road to Colonia Sant Jordi was one to have been affected and closed. There were road closures in the Soller area because of fallen rocks.

At Son Sant Joan Airport there were delays to numerous flights, with forty minutes having been the average delay time. The airports authority Aena reported 140 flights having been affected - take-offs and landings.

Lightning strikes caused two small forest fires in Arta and Calvia.

More rain and storms are possible today, but Sunday should see more settled conditions return and temperatures climbing to at least 30C.
