A hundred people are on the waiting list to adopt a dog from Son Reus Animal Protection Centre but there are only 30 animals available that are not dangerous breeds.

The Councillor for Medical-Ambient & Benestar Animal Shelter, Ramón Perpinyà says there are 40 potentially dangerous breed dogs at the centre but admits that it’s very difficult to find people who want to adopt dog them.

Perpinyà says it’s very easy to find people who want to adopt small dogs and breeds that are not dangerous and that out of the 1,470 dogs taken into the shelter over the last year there are just 89 left, six others were put down because they were sick.

The priority now, he says, is to find people who know how to handle the breeds that are potentially dangerous.

There are plans to remodel and modernise the facilities at Son Reus Animal Protection Centre which include building a second operating room and hiring of another veterinarian, but the shelter will not be extended.
