Spain's interior minister, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, has said that there will be an increase in traffic controls over Easter, both during the day and at night.

I get the traffic controls, no problem with that. But what I do find rather off-putting, is why a lot of them have to be fully armed, with machine guns on their bellies, standing wide legged. I know it looks cool, but is this really necessary? People are stressed enough as it is, about getting food like it is war time, about their jobs and future not to mention their lives. As far as I know we live in a democratic state, not a police state. But I reckon these guys love it all, as they finally see some sort of action. The good old Franco days relived a bit.
