People living in A Marina along Spain’s northern coast in the region of Lugo will not be able to leave the area from midnight on Sunday until Friday, two days before regional elections in Galicia on July 12.
The regional government said people will be allowed to move around A Marina but only those who need to travel for work will be allowed to leave or enter the area.
Regional Health minister Jesus Vazquez Almuina told a news conference on Sunday that the biggest outbreaks were linked to several bars in the area. Regional health authorities said there were now 258 cases in Galicia, of which 117 were in Lugo.
Capacity in bars and restaurants will be reduced to 50% and people will have to wear a face mask, even if outdoors on beaches or at swimming pools, the authorities said.
Spain’s Health Minister Salvador Illa said on Sunday that the ministry was following the situations in Galicia and Catalonia very closely.
“Social distancing and lockdown measures were the key to flattening the curve. Now they are needed again to stop the outbreaks,” he said in tweet.
Spain has registered 205,545 coronavirus cases and 28,385 deaths according to health ministry data, making it one of Europe’s worst-affected countries.

Stan, you do what you can for yourself, of course. But why would you expect things from others, who want nothing else but live a normal life again, after all this lock down misery? I know this is selfish thinking, but I find it pretty selfish too that you expect a whole country to basically lead zombie lives, so people like you may be ok? Seems a little insane to me. This whole 1,5m new normality including the wearing of masks, is having a huge impact on us humans, on a cellular level (dna). Young kids are told "do not go close to that person". It is ridiculous. Luckily this issue is picked up more and more by specialists. This "new normality" will have far reaching effects, which our politicians do not even have begun to think about. They just listen to virologists.
I am a very high risk person in terms of my health here on the Island. Which is why I retired here. To assist my health considerations. I am still wearing a face mask , and surgical gloves. If the majority of people here in Majorca continue to flout the rules and regulations applicable to the Virus Pandemic. Then more Lockdown Spikes will occur. More people will eventually die from getting infected. Unless personal responsibility returns to those people in the Island as a whole.
