Royal Navy to base warship in Gibraltar

New offshore patrol vessel will conduct operations in the Mediterranean

The Royal Navy will station one of its new offshore patrol vessels in Gibraltar. The move comes after numerous incursions into Gibraltar waters by Spanish vessels over recent years. HMS Trent is far larger than the two small vessels which form the Gibraltar squadron.

She will be conducting operarions across the Mediterranean from her new base. Vessels of this type are already based in the Caribbean, the Falklands Islands and Singapore.
