The company with the street cleaning service contract in Manacor has amassed penalties totalling 160,000 euros for breaches of this contract.
Manacor town hall's councillor for the environment, Sebastià Llodrà, has recognised that the the municipality "is not as clean as we would like, and for this reason the company is being sanctioned". He was responding to criticisms from the Partido Popular opposition that "Manacor is dirty".
Llodrà says that the councillor for human resources, Joan Gaià, met company representatives last week. They were told that because serious sanctions have been imposed, the company may well not be considered for future contracts.
He adds that the town hall has begun to work on new contracts for cleaning and waste collection. "We manage public money and we cannot allow a private company to do business without providing the service demanded."

What I do know is that tourists don’t bring their dogs on holiday and some towns, if not all, have dog poo everywhere you look. Most owners are conscientious but it is the few that “don’t give a shit” who spoil it for everyone else.
Surely you're aware, Fred, that not only is it not quite as bad as you suggest, but the majority of it doesn't even come from mallorquin population? The locals are very conscientious of environmental issues and are perhaps a bit OTT about it. It's hardly a secret. But ok, I get it. It's natural to blame it all on the unsophisticated "foreigners" here. That kind of thing would never happen in England. No siree.
Whilst there are street cleaners, road sweepers etc. The people who live in Mallorca have no pride of their Country. It can not be blamed on Tourists. The majority of lazy litter louts and lack of education in schools, shows that there is no knowledge of pride in their environment. Empty cans, empty cigarrette packets, plastic bottles etc. are everywhere to be seen on this Island.
