A drowning in Peguera, Mallorca

An 80-year-old German man died on Friday afternoon after drowning at the Palmira beach in Paguera.

Shortly before 4am, he was swimming some 200 metres from the shore when the alarm was raised. Medics and police tried unsuccessfully to revive him for more than half an hour. Beachgoers shielded him from view with towels.

It is suspected that he had suffered a heart attack.
