The new Balearic government has hit the ground running and already they are in talks to scrap the 80 kilometre an hour speed limit on the Palma ring road and the special bus lane (VAO lane.) The 80 kilometre an hour speed limit led to numerous complaints from motorists and was hugely unpopular.

Finbar SaundersThey are not good drivers at any speed..!!!
WHY would they do this?? Mallorca's motorways are already clogged enough. Today, anyway, it is almost impossible to go even 70 km during most of the day due to intense traffic on the Via Centura. To hell with safety and saving lives? Idiots!
Trust me, the limit has made the road safer. The Spanish aren't good drivers at speed, this is a bad move.
In Berlín Germany ALL the intercity highways are max 80kph. And the Germans know how to drive. Not like many of the people here. The via Centura is just to crowded to run at 120kph.And since when is a safety related issue decided by "popular demand". Bloody nuts.
Surely there are many actions for a new government that are more needed and more urgent than this?? This is just a quick/easy populist stunt to get headlines.
Wouldn’t some creditable data on speeds, emissions and accident rates be useful to decide what would be the best speed limits to impose? Just letting it loose to the boy racers again seems equally senseless as imposing arbitrary limits.
