Spanish citizens of Mallorca are voting for the second time in two months, Sunday's general election having been called early by Prime Minister Sánchez of PSOE following regional and municipal elections at the end of May.

Mallorca and the Balearics elect eight of the 350 deputies in Congress and five of the 250 senators. The Partido Popular, who now form the Balearic government, will be looking to increase their representation in Congress from two to four. Their list is headed by Ibizan José Vicente Marí, a minister in the PP Balearic government from 2011 to 2015 and more recently a senator.

Another former senator and minister heads the list of candidates for Sumar-Més, Vicenç Vidal. The Mallorcan party has formed an election alliance with Sumar, the party established by Spain's employment minister Yolanda Díaz, and will vie for the left-wing vote with PSOE, headed by former Balearic president, Francina Armengol.

On the right with the PP are Vox, whose list of candidates is headed by the most prominent Vox politician in the Balearics, Jorge Campos.

There have been criticisms of the timing of the election in high summer. There are concerns because of the heat, while the number of postal votes has increased by almost a quarter, a reason being that people are away on holiday.
