This is common place in SA. I myself rode at the back of a pick up (bakkie in SA speak) during my youth and even late into my 40's when the occassion called for - on farm roads much much worse than the european roads, before moving to Spain not so long ago, and here I am, in my late 60's, still looking back fondly to those carefree days.
You want to go to Asia and see how it's done over there, in Vietnam they drive around with a whole family on one scooter, in a city and it's completely normal and not illegal. The western world now seems to be obsessed now with rules and regulations.
tranq tranquerI take your point about being over-protective to children but there is far, far more than a teeny weeny possibility of getting hurt on a Mallorcan road for all road users, belted in and being careful or otherwise.
Yes and they could have been thrown out of the dodgems, fallen off their bicycles or just walked into the road from behind a bus. Life has risks and the more we protect our kids from every single teeny weeny possibility that they may get hurt, then the less prepared they will be for real life. Riding in the back of a truck is a thrill and they rely on the driver to look after them. Bring back playing conkers.
