Still no go-ahead for a car park to end chaos at a Manacor beach

The plan was and remains for a car park with capacity for 32 vehicles. In April 2022, it was sent to the Balearic Environment Commission for consideration, the town hall having envisaged that this car park would be ready in time for summer 2023. It wasn't, and at present there is no indication as to when it will be ready.

The town hall has included the project in its 2024 regulatory plan, just as it did last year, but it is not known when the procedures for executing the project will be activated.

The environment commission did in fact report favourably on the project in February 2023. The town hall then sought clarification on certain points contained in the report, and these were given the following month.

As to the present situation, the government says that it is the town hall which must take the steps outlined in the plan. But it would appear that there are still issues to be resolved.

The car park, which will also have space for bicycles, became something of a priority in attempting to prevent the parking chaos near Cala Varques. This has included illegal parking on both sides of the main road from which there is an access lane to the cove. As well as getting to grips with parking, there is the overcrowding that can occur on the beach. A maximum capacity of 129 people has been established.
