A study on the social sustainability of tourism in Mallorca finds that 85.7% of people believe that they would live better if there was less tourism; 81.2% of people whose jobs depend on tourism in some way are of the same view.

Some survey! 420 Palma residents? The problem is Island-wide and needs a far better consultation than this. However, there should already be enough data knocking around to instigate some immediate “win” changes. Such as: Cruise ship limits Car hire limits Reduction in hotel beds A freeze on new rentals And… Investment in infrastructure, rail, water capture and supply. More affordable housing guaranteed for residents. Better tax incentives for entrepreneurial start-ups so they last longer than a year and can grow. Let’s hope this new government actually do something. It’s been a year already, and not much happening yet.
