Balearic government spokesperson, Antoni Costa, said on Thursday that the government has the utmost respect for those who will be attending Sunday's protest against mass tourism but called for this respect to be reciprocal - respect for those members of the pubic who don't take part and for visitors who are in the city during the protest.

If promotion is the source of it, then you'll need to ban a lot more than presence at trade fairs. Movie production. Major motion pictures and the celebrities starring in them promote Mallorca widely on social media, which has a reach galactically beyond any trade fair. Better ban both movie production and celebrities from visiting the island. Travel magazines. Mallorca is featured broadly in popular travel magazines and websites (e.g., tripadvisor) which have global audiences. Better ban them from mentioning Mallorca. Tabloids love anything sensational about Mallorca, and will even make stuff up to get a 500 word slot on the Sunday edition. Better ban tabloids from even mentioning Mallorca. The airlines and tour operators, major hotel chains. No explanation needed. Banned from Mallorca. Also, tourists themselves promote Mallorca on social media extensively. Gotta ban Mallorca from social media too. That'll fix it.
It's not the tourists’ fault we have invited them to come to Mallorca. If you don't want them, then stop promoting the Balearics in all the ferias de tourismo! Easy.
