The Balearic Ports Authority is holding a series of meetings to discuss its plan for the reorganisation of the port in Palma.
One of these meetings was with the Paseo Marítimo Residents Association earlier this week. In general, according to the president of the association, Antonio Ruíz, the plan "looks very good". It contemplates moving the industrial part of the port to the Dique del Oeste. This will mean "less nuisance".
As far as the association is concerned, the main issue has to do with noise. In this regard, it wants there to be greater use of ship-to-shore electrical connections to cut cruise ship and ferry engine noise and emissions.
And it is insisting that something is done about the party boats moored by the Paseo. These have been the subject of frequent complaints. The association wants them to be moved to a more remote location.
Other proposals include a sustainable transport system in the area that meets the needs of residents, businesses and tourists and a reorganisation of traffic so that heavy trucks use the Via Cintura.

The biggest problem with the port is the giant multi story plague ships, that belch out pollution and disgorge thousands of penny pinching tourists to clog up Palma’s ancient lanes. Then they fill their tummies with the island’s precious water and chug off - churning up the sea bed. Horrific :(
100% get the trucks off the Paseo, what is the point of all the pedestrianisation, if they're still rolling off the ferries and across the seafront?
