"One of our main problems is that we don't have exact information. We ask citizens who send us complaints to do so with maximum information and accuracy - the exact address, the floor, the name ... of where they suspect that an illegal activity is taking place."

This is the appeal by the Council of Mallorca's councillor for tourism, José Marcial Rodríguez, for more precise information regarding illegal holiday lets.

Over recent months, he says, the tourism inspectorate has been contacted more than 3,000 times. While some reports contain detailed information, including photos, not all do.

The Council, as was the case with the Balearic government tourism ministry before it transferred responsibility, invites the public to report suspected cases of illegal letting (inspeccioturisme@conselldemallorca.net).

There are now 30 inspectors. They devote 80% of their time to pursuing illegal lets. There are also more people involved in processing cases, which will cut the time it takes in issuing fines.
