The CAEB Restaurants Association has been lamenting a 20% fall. With the end to the 'official' season just over a week away, the association is now turning its attention to the Christmas period. And the news is more positive; in the centre of Palma anyway. The president, Juanmi Ferrer, says that restaurants in the city are already booked for Christmas lunches and dinners. There is a certain "euphoria".
However, this is not the case across the whole island, while he says that spending on Christmas meals is being reduced "year after year".
The average is between 30 and 50 euros per person, and restaurants are maintaining their prices. "We know that our customers have difficulties due to the high cost of living on the island, so the vast majority of us are choosing not to raise prices."

It is not so much cost. The big issue is Airbnb and the like renting properties with self catering facilities. Ban them problem solved.
The prices in my local town has increased their prices considerable since the spring. Quite surprised as their clientele mostly are local Mallorcans using the place.
Most restaurants have been taking advantage of us all for some years now. It seems they are finally getting there comupatenc.
This is confusing. I know they keep saying it's been dismal for restaurants, but honestly, I haven't seen an empty or "unbusy" restaurant all year. Not in Palma, the resorts or out in the uncharted wilderness. I was in one last night that was full to the brim. And an expensive one too. ??
It shows a certain degree of desperation when you are pinning your hopes on a busy christmas period. Would advertising discounts to cruise passangers not make more sense over the off season ?
