The children in the Reception class at Queen’s College have been learning about minibeasts - they are fascinated by the lives of the small creatures that can be found in the areas surrounding school.

They have been drawing and painting the minibeasts

Each week the children go out into the woods to find out about their tiny “friends” the minibeasts! They are very respectful of the small creatures by making sure that if they are observing them out of their natural habitat, they return them to the exact place where they were found. They have been drawing maps to make sure they don’t forget exactly where each minibeast was discovered.

The children love observing their minibeasts, watching them carefully to find out how they move, eat and live.

They have been drawing and painting the minibeasts and using their sketches to recreate their shapes in plasticine and collage.
Stories about insects are firm favourites at the moment - especially The Very Hungry Caterpillar!
