The demolition work on the emblematic semi-circular building at Son Dureta has been awarded to the Mallorcan company Melchor Mascaró for 3.5 million euros and will be carried out in 14 months, in parallel to the construction of phase 1 of the new social and healthcare complex.
The Councillor of Health, Patricia Gómez, last week presented the final project for building B, which will consist of three “comb-shaped” blocks and will be located on the site where the maternity and children’s hospital used to be. The intention is for the construction to be completed by 2026.
While work has already begun on the residence, last week the construction of the first health building was awarded on a temporary basis, which will also, as a curiosity, house the offices of dependency assessment that are now located in Joan Crespí. These three blocks are for long-stay patients who have been admitted for more than three months, and there will also be a new health centre for 20,000 health cards.
