The annual rate of the consumer price index (CPI) has risen by a tenth in January, to 5.8%, after the withdrawal of the discount on fuel prices and despite the lowering of VAT on some food items. According to the data released on Monday by the National Statistics Institute (INE), core inflation, without unprocessed food or energy products, has climbed half a point to 7.5%, the highest figure since December 1986.

From the end of this year, UK travellers looking to go to certain countries will need to get a ETIAS visa. The changes mean an extra £6.20 will be added to the cost of travel. The European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) will be a mandatory requirement for many travellers going to Schengen member states. They include countries like Spain, France, Italy, Germany, Italy and more.

The Minister of Health, Carolina Darias, has assured that "not too long from now" a decision will be made to eliminate the obligatory use of masks on public transport, although she commented that it will be when the epidemiological situation and the experts "advise it".
