Mallorca's game of the season

This match has been described in the local media as “the game of the season” so far for Real Mallorca. Both teams have long La Liga connections and have won major trophies. In their side is ex Mallorca midfielder Javi Ros, who scored last weekend in a 2-1 win over Almeria. They lie two places above us on 16 points and if we win on Saturday, it would see us leapfrog them and move further up to mid-table. Like Mallorca, the visitors were relegated four seasons ago and desperately want their La Liga status back. The islanders welcome the return of playmaker Juan Culio who missed last week's 2-2 draw at Nastic through suspension; he played for Zaragoza last season.

Real Mallorca reach game 13 (just past the quarter mark) and appear to be in another time-warp of under-achieving, stuck in almost mid-table obscurity. We have an overall lack of quality within our ranks and that remains a serious concern, especially (with the exception of Brandon Thomas who's scored seven goals in league and cup games) when our profligacy in front of goal regularly borders on the ridiculous. Only a super optimist would be confident with our squad at the moment and most fans wonder if, under Vazquez, he's capable of improving their game to the level required, and the task looks ominous and arduous.

If we want to have any chance to climb the table and get anywhere near the play-offs, clinical finishing in front of goal is absolutely crucial. Too many supposed attackers at Real Mallorca have developed a phobia with regards to taking on a shot.

With his six league goals, Brandon has become hot property and it's rumoured La Liga sides Villareal and Celta Vigo regularly send scouts to watch him play, although we've been told he's not for sale at any price. He signed a contract extension earlier this year which means that the asking price for the Cala d'Or 21-year-old is around 8 million euros. That's almost double the amount Real Madrid bought Marco Asensio for.
