Mallorca away at second-placed Girona created more and better goal-scoring chances than the home side, especially in the first half. Within the first ten minutes both Domínguez and Lago spurned opportunities. Lago had a better chance after 25 minutes, while Girona, dominating possession, rarely threatened.
The second half was a mainly dour affair, enlivened by another miss by Mallorca, this time by Roigé ten minutes after the break. Brandon and Lekic were brought on in an attempt to break the deadlock. But the sending-off of Culio for a second yellow offence didn't assist Mallorca's cause, for which there was no way back when Juanpe headed in Girona's winner with two minutes remaining.
Mallorca are now seventeenth with 28 points, one more than nineteenth-placed Cordoba in the drop zone.
Girona: René; Coris (Mojica 77), Juanpe, Alcalá, Kiko Olivas, Aday; Alcaraz, Granell, Borja (Longo 62), Portu (Eloi 82); Sandaza
Mallorca: Cabrero; Campabadal, Yusté, Raillo, Angeliño; Culio, Domínguez (Saúl 90), Sasa; Roigé (Brandon 61), Moutinho (Lekic 77); Lago Junior

Mallorca didn't play too badly - better than most games this season. Culio should have been substituted after his first yellow card. The manager didn´t do this, so between them, they cost Mallorca the match as Culio continued to foul and so was deservedly sent off. Culio is a liability to the Club and should be given his marching orders.
