Mallorca failed to get back on winning ways in Valencia. | Carlos Montes de Oca

Away to Valencia Mestalla, the Valencia B side, in seventh place before the start of the match, Mallorca were looking for an improvement after two successive draws. It didn't come in the first half. Reina saved from Navarro after six minutes, and then a foul by Sastre on 16 minutes - a clear penalty for a push - gave Sánchez the chance to open the scoring. Which he did. Immediately afterwards, Lago had a couple of opportunities, and following what seemed a justified claim for handball in the box by a Valencia defender, Villalba made it two for the home side on 25 minutes.

Mallorca are playing as if they do not want to risk promotion. They know that their poor performances are just not good enough to compete with the league above. Better to be top of a lower league than bottom of an upper one, where they would lose a lot of spectators as seat prices would have to go up.
