Majorcan Jorge Lorenzo has won the World MotoGP championship for the third time in his career. At the Ricardo Tormo circuit in Cheste, Valencia, Lorenzo led from the first to final lap in winning the championship ahead of Italian Valentino Rossi who, because of a penalty incurred at the Malaysia Grand Prix, had to start from the back of the grid and was able to finish only fourth and therefore lost out to Lorenzo despite a seven-point lead going into the Valencia race.
