The Evolution Mallorca International Film Festival has contributed hugely to cementing Mallorca’s place on the world cinema map.
Now in its twelfth year, the festival isn’t solely about the screening of films; a key aim is to bring together independent filmmakers in Mallorca. The festival is over seven days.
The opening event will feature ‘Un amor’ from Isabel Coixet, one of Spain’s most prolific film directors, and which is set in La Escapa, a small village in deepest rural Spain. There are Spanish premieres, short films as well as feature films, drive-in cinema in Port Adriano (Grease is one of the films) and awards.
There are also talks, one of which will be on Monday (October 23) at the Universidad Luliana in Palma. This will be by Danish director Susanne Bier. In 2011 she won an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film (In a Better World), while she also won awards for a television series closely associated with Mallorca - she directed the BBC’s The Night Manager.
