Via Crucis representation in Palma for Easter. | J. TORRES
The Via Crucis, the stations of the cross, was the subject of a 1961 publication by Binissalem-born poet, author and playwright Llorenç Moyà.
In 1985, the Taula Rodona theatre group created a dramatised interpretation of the book. This production has been staged ever since, with the exception of an interruption caused by the pandemic. It was traditionally always performed on the steps of the Cathedral. Covid required a new location in order to give more space, and it has been decided that this will now be the permanent location - Ses Voltes by the Cathedral also has the advantage that the audience can see better.
A blend of the surreal with the agony, it is a highly anticipated event at Easter. Those watching are asked to maintain a respectful silence.
