Dear Sir,
Have you noticed all the Governmental requests not to round up prices when converting to Euros - and guess who are the greatest offenders - the Government authorities!! In the change from pesetas to euros in the Port of Palma parking ticket machines the price has gone from 86 pts/hr to 175 pts/hr (2.1 euros for 2 hours) which equates to a 100% rise!

However, the sneaky price rise doesn't stop there. In the confusion they have also increased the chargeable time by 1 hour per day (was 9.00 - 1.30 and 5.00 - 8.00 now 9.00 - 2.00 and 4.30 8.00).

Hence for the average working day's parking (9 - 5) in the Port Authorities area the cost has increased from 390 pts to 960 pts (5.75 euros) an almost unbelievable increase of 148%!

I hope you can publicise these facts in both your paper and your sister paper, the Ultima Hora and hopefully pressurise the authorities into reducing the charges.

Incidentally, I believe the increases in the Palma city machines to be similar but slightly less.
The reported increase of 30% in Paris parking pales into insignificance.

Yours faithfully,

Andy Webster. (by e-mail)
