What contingency plans have you prepared for the next Airport Coach strike?
Mike Lillico, Playa de Palma.
Dear Mike Lillico,
The scale of last year's coach strike was unprecedented and, for those companies in both the public and private sectors of the industry, many lessons were learned from the experience. Indeed, never have contingency procedures been subjected to such a test as on this occasion. While hoping that we never experience a repetition, it has nonetheless been necessary to make changes in the legal provisions for such eventualities. We are now better prepared than ever before.
Dear Tiffany,
I was interested in your reply to John Jillings letter re being charged to use a footpath. Is this in fact legal? I welcome the news of the Tramuntana long distance path which will surely add to the joys of walking in Majorca. The tourist tax will be less unpopular if we see more developments like this. Can you tell me what is the current position regarding the right of access to the watch tower and Cap Andritxol adjacent to Camp de Mar. We have been amazed that this pleasant route enjoyed by many holiday makers over the years has been fenced off. Can we look forward to the reinstatement of this amenity? If not I fear many winter tourists will find Paguera and locality a less enticing venue. We can not afford to play Golf everyday! Walking is the most popular outdoor activity in Great Britain and Northern Europe. If you want us to carry on coming to this beautiful island please help us enjoy its scenery and wildlife.
Yours sincerely,
Elizabeth Davies, Nottingham and Camp de Mar (by e-mail).
Dear Elizabeth
As more and more people, both visitors and residents, discover the possibilities for walking in our beautiful islands, the greater the pressures to reopen, restore and preserve ancient footpaths and trails. And we expect that the new Serra de Tramuntana footpath is likely to attract even more enthusiastic walkers to Mallorca, and enable them to enjoy our scenery and wildlife to the full. On the specific subject of the walks around the watchtower and Cap Andritxol near Camp de Mar, my understanding is that the area remains closed - at least at the moment. I would suggest that local residents follow the procedure of first raising the matter with their local council. As I tried to explain in my reply to an earlier letter on this subject, each case has to be dealt with individually.
