Dear Editor, In response to Glynnis Rowley's letter of 12/01/03, at the Sociedad Protectora de Animales we have discussed this sad matter.
Unfortunately, just prior to the Christmas period we get a lot of animals dumped at the refuge, due to the holidays and people not wanting to pay boarding fees.
Soon after this we also get lots of unwanted pets, ie, kittens and puppies, unsuitable Christmas gifts when the novelty has worn off.
We were full at the time of this case, however the Director, Nini, has asked me to reassure everyone that we do take in abandoned animals, and as many pets as is possible, as lots of people know from past stories in the Daily Bulletin, but we only have so much capacity. We rehome as many as possible and keep and care for the rest. Nini has also asked me to tell anyone who has a problem, to telephone her personally on 971 47 00 60 any day, (best between 2 and 4pm.)
We are trying to do our utmost for the hundreds of unwanted animals, sometimes however there are slip-ups but hopefully you will all treat this as an occasional incident and continue to support us in any way you can. (We have tried to contact G. Rowley to explain but she is not at present available).
Don't forget our thrift shop! Wednesdays and Saturdays 10am to 1pm, plus every first Saturday of the month all day 10am to 6pm, with bar service.
Any unwanted goods always gratefully received.
Yours truly, Sue, p.p. Sociedad Protectora de Animales.
