I READ your article of Thursday July 22nd regarding cabbies having their worst ever season with utter dismay, having experienced only the previous evening two examples of the kind of service our cabbies offer. Like a number of people, on Wednesday my wife and I headed for Plaza del Toros to see the Corrs, leaving our car at Portals to take a cab at about 8.45 pm. The first cab driver who pulled up told us he had had a long day and did not want to go that far, but if we wanted to go to Palma Nova that would be OK, otherwise we should wait until another cab came by. Nice.
On leaving the concert, our plan of taking a taxi in the first place backfired as we spent 45 minutes walking from the Plaza del Toro down the main roads to Palma and we were unable to get a taxi at all not because all were taken but because there weren't any! And there were many other people who also couldn't get taxis. What a lost business opportunity how many of the 8000+ concert goers would have been delighted to have taken taxis that night?
Perhaps the taxi drivers should be aware of what is happening in the city and react to the demand that such events generate, whilst being a little more service oriented, then business may not be as bad as they say it is. Andy Pratt, Majorca
