By Humphrey Carter UNDER-FIRE Real Mallorca coach Benito Floro's job at the club is safe, for the moment at least. Emerging from two hours of talks with the board of directors last night, club chairman, Mateo Alemany, announced that Benito Floro has the “total support of the club. “We didn't even discuss the possibility of ending his contract because we've got confidence is his ability and in that of our squad,” the chairman said.

Mateo Alemany said that the reason for the side's dismal performance so far this season and its current position down at the bottom of the league “as the coach has explained to us, because the side's not putting away its chances. “We're creating chances, we're pushing up on goal, but we don't seem to be able to finish and that's where we've got to improve,” he said.
Sunday's 1-1 draw with Villarreal and the angry response from the fans brought the issue of Floro's future to a head.
Asked about the possible return of Hector Cuper as coach, Alemany replied “signing him would be as difficult as trying to get Samuel Eto'o back.
We're friends, we sometimes talk, but he's a much sought after coach and well beyond our means. “We've got a good coach and good squad.” While the board met, Floro took training as usual with his thoughts set on Sunday's game against Sociedad.
