Dear Sir, I was horrified to see that another terrible road accident has happened (Sunday's Daily Bulletin 31st October) and was yet so angry at the same time.
I drive the Palma-Inca motorway in both directions, five times a week and do not understand the lack of priority given to safety crash barriers to divide traffic travelling in opposite directions. It must be worth the expense to safeguard human lives and stop cars from flying into the face of on-coming traffic when they lose control.

The present government has used the issue of safety to instigate the biggest road building program that this island has seen for years. Money is obviously not a problem, so how about using some of it to improve the motorways that we have. More roads won't necessarily make life safer but central crash barriers have been proven to cut death and serious injury by a large percentage, in many countries. Why is no-one paying any notice to this?

I cannot count the number of man-hours devoted to gardening on the central reservations - 3 men every day strimming, weeding and pruning to keep them looking beautiful. Beautiful but a potential death-trap! Which is more important?

I was lucky - when a car came fly ing across in front of me, I had 100 metres to stop. My heart goes out to the latest victims. In such a situation you can do nothing to help yourself.
