Graffiti art sites for Palma

Dear Sir, IT was interesting to read in yesterday's Bulletin that the Socialists in Palma want the Council to provide specially designated areas for “Graffiti Artists” to use. Before agreeing to this proposal, may I suggest that Palma Council consults with Calvia Council, where some years ago, the same “looney idea” was put into practice by the then Socialist mayoress, the result being an unacceptable increase in the so-called “graffiti art” on any/every surface where spray paint will adhere. Its removal is costing Calvia Council a small fortune. “Graffiti Art” is out of control in Calvia. It's now time for heavy fines with periods of community service (i.e. perhaps cleaning off offending graffiti); and a re-education programme introduced into schools and institutes. WE have just spent three weeks holiday in Lot, France. Natives very friendly and helpful, scenery wonderful, weather “iffy”. Food acceptable to good. However the point of this letter is cost comparison. In Majorca we are constantly told how expensive the Island has become. France is about 15 percent dearer. Petrol (95 unleaded) is Eu 1.37 litre, marginally cheaper at supermarkets, a coffee (and it's awful stuff) anything from Eu 1.20 to Eu 2.50, a menu du jour Eu 10 to Eu 28. Even a French “Lidl” is more expensive than its Majorcan cousin. So to the ex-pat pessimists here we say “appreciate what you have got: superb coffee, good bars & restaurants, lower cost of living and superb weather.” Nice to be back.
