I read with interest the article on extending the use of public transport in Majorca. The system there (on Majorca) is good but it has one very serious failing. Consider the fact that the use of villas rather than hotels has been a major growth generator for tourism on the island and then look at the transport facilities at the airport to get you to the villa. If you want to use the bus, you have to battle into Palma with cases, get off and then seek out a bus for your location. Ditto for the train service to the north. This leaves the very expensive taxi or, as most of us do, hire a car to enjoy a door to door experience. Having hired the car, it is highly unlikely the traveller will then opt for a bus once at the villa.

Solution? Perhaps a good bus service at the airport, taking passengers to all the major holiday towns. Longer term, extend the train line to the airport as is the case in all major European cities.

Until then, forget the idea of a mass migration to public transport. It only works if it works for the passenger.
