With regard to your article about the CineCiutat needing more members. Having been regulars at the old Renoir cinema for a number of years we were very disappointed when its closure was announced last year and were keen to support it in its new incarnation so we signed up as members of CineCiutat for 6 months. It seems however that the policy for selecting films has changed under the new management. The Renoir was nearly always showing at least one film that we wanted to see, not necessarily blockbusters, but certainly mainstream like War Horse and Salmon Fishing in the Yemen. However the CineCiutat has shown almost nothing of interest since it started.

Obviously the management should be allowed to show whatever they want, but there now seems to be a lot fewer English language films and those that they do show are either very obscure or at least a year old meaning that we have already seen them on TV.

Fortunately the mantle seems to be being taken up by the Rivoli which seems to be showing an increasing number of interesting films. It is a charming old fashioned cinema with very personable staff and well worth a visit. Sadly we will not be renewing our CineCiutat membership and I suspect that we will not be the only ones.
