I am starting to feel rather sorry for Balearic President Jose Ramon Bauza. Everywhere he goes he gets mobbed by demonstrators. On three occasions this week he has been greeted by protests in Manacor, Inca and Sa Pobla. Already he is accompanied by about half the riot squad everytime he leaves Palma. What next, his official car will be changed to a tank! The Balearic President went on the attack yesterday saying that the other political parties in the islands should condemn this sort of violence. So far they have blamed the President´s spending cuts for the wave of protests which have hit the island. Bauza is right. While no-one would support spending cuts unless they were really necessary the other political parties should back the President rather than the protesters. Bauza says that the cuts had to be made because the local economy was in such a terrible condition. Also, it should be remembered that a year ago he won the local elections by a landslide. Give the President a break or at least stop the violence.
