For Mark Zuckerberg, the 28-year-old chief executive of Facebook for the “fiasco” of his company's stockmarket debut when its shares fell by 18 per cent after the launch, leaving it valued at US$84 billion compared with a US$104 billion valuation. Nonetheless the flotation has reportedly made Mr Zuckerberg a multi-billionaire.

Facebook has been a one-man band since Zuckerberg founded it shortly after leaving Harvard and he must take responsibility, although Morgan Stanley, the chief underwriters cannot be entirely absolved.
