Little is known about the new requirements for a residency permit which are being introduced by the Spanish government but it does appear that in some cases, those applying for a green residence certificate will have to show the authorities proof of income and in some cases, private medical insurance. Obviously the new legislation is being introduced to stop non-Spanish European Union citizens being a drain on the Spanish government (which is quite rich when you consider that Spain has received billions of euros from the European Union over the years). Now what I have stated is still very much in the rumour stage and the facts still have to be confirmed but it appears to me that Spain is breaking every rule in the European Union law book. I suspect that it would break the free-movement of labour laws by Brussels. Watch this space for more information but it appears at the moment that we just might have another fight on our hands. You can´t break European law.
