He has plenty of critics and he will always be smeared by the Iraq war but former Prime Minister Tony Blair clearly showed Britain yesterday what they were missing. He looked extremely comfortable as he was questioned by the Leveson Inquiry yesterday showing that he is still a formidable politician whose experience and abilities could clearly help the political system in Britain. I would say that Blair´s evidence yesterday was the clearest to date on the relations which exists between the so-called press barons and Britain´s political elite. Blair said that he needed to have media baron Rupert Murdoch aboard to get New Labour elected. Despite some rather irrelevant questioning and the interruption by a heckler Blair stuck to his guns. It is a great shame that politicians of the calibre of Tony Blair are not still in parliament, because Britain badly needs them. It has to be remembered that Blair won three general elections by landslides and steered Britain through some tough economic times. But it was his decision to take Britain's troops to war in Iraq which will always dog his premiership. In some ways this is a great pity because it has effectively meant that he has been forced into the political wilderness. Britain is in a financial mess. The coalition government is facing an uphill struggle. The government needs all the help they can get and perhaps Tony Blair could be just the person to lend a helping hand.
