Queen Elizabeth was named here last week so today it must be her Consort, Prince Philip, whose discreet but invariably reliable support the Queen herself is always the first to recognise. The role of Consort is not an easy one but Prince Philip has performed it almost to perfection -- never seeming to upstage the Queen but at the same time showing enough of his own strong personality and views to avoid any suggestion that he is no more than a figurehead . On his 91st birthday, best wishes to him for a quick recovery in his health.
