David Miliband, the leader of the Labour Party, is now saying that Rupert Murdoch owns a too big a slice of the British media. He is probably right but he must remember that his predecessors Tony Blair and Gordon Brown went out of their way to court the Murdoch press and they would never have said that Murdoch had too much power, especially when his newspapers were backing Labour. All of a sudden Rupert Murdoch has become the unacceptable face of the media baron in Britain. He has too much power and he has been pushing his weight around for far too long, is the general concensus of opinion. Miliband can openly criticise Murdoch because his newspapers have never backed him. Infact Gordon Brown was furious when the Murdoch press switched sides to the Tories at the last election and the Labour sulk continues. So now Miliband wants to reduce Murdoch´s power in Britain. Well I wish him the best of luck because he is going to be facing an uphill struggle. You sometimes get the impression in Britain that Murdoch owns all of the British media. There are other newspaper owners who are almost as powerful as Murdoch but are never mentioned. The debt that the media in Britain owes Murdoch is also never mentioned; he has effectively kept loss-making titles alive. Miliband may be trying to cash-in on Murdoch´s unpopularity but he should remember that for many years He was a key ally of the Labour Party.
