For Britain's Serious Fraud Office which faced another blow to its reputation when it had to drop an investigation into the property tycoon Vincent Tchenguiz and his relations with the failed Iceland bank Kaupthing. The case was a complex one but the SFO's handling of it since 2009 has drawn criticism from a senior judge for sheer incompetence and from Mr Tchenguiz's lawyer, Lord Goldsmith, the former attorney general, for collective institutional failure. The decision to drop the Tchenguiz case was taken by the SFO's newly-appointed director.
