Is the new British Consul Andrew Gwatkin, who is also Consul General in Barcelona. Under a new Foreign Office plan the Consulate in Palma will now come under control of Barcelona with Gwatkin being a sort of “super Consul.” The move has caused much controversy especially as the island has lost its popular Consul Paul Abrey. But Gwatkin, who visited our offices in Palma this week, appears to be the right man for the new job. He said that his door will always be open for the British community on the island and that he would be attending key expatriate events on the island. He will also be writing a regular Bulletin column. A new Vice Consul will be recruited for Palma.
